ORLANDO - The UCF men's cross country team earned its highest ranking in program history when the Golden Knights moved from 15th to 12th in the U.S. Cross Country Coaches Association South Region Poll on Tuesday.
UCF's jump is credited to their impressive fifth place team showing at the FSU Invitational on Sept. 17. At the meet, the Golden Knights beat Georgia Tech, which dropped from 11th to 14th, and current No. 15 Florida A&M.
The top 11 schools remained stable as Florida State stayed at No. 1 with Florida, Alabama, Auburn and Georgia rounding out the top five.
"I am very pleased with the way the men have been running this season," said head coach Marcia Mansur-Wentworth. "They have all been really working hard doing double runs and it shows in the competitions. Our goal is to finish better than our ranking at the NCAA Regional in November."
The UCF men return to action on Oct. 1 at the Loyola Lakefront Invitational in Chicago, Ill.
