MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The UCF volleyball team opened play at the Diet Coke Classic on Friday evening, dropping a 3-0 (30-18, 31-29, 30-27) match to Xavier at the Sports Pavilion on the University of Minnesota campus. The Golden Knights fall to 0-3 on the season while Xavier pushes its record to 4-0.

Junior middle blocker Jana Mitchell paced UCF, totaling 10 kills and five blocks. Junior setter Leah Alexander had 22 assists and senior libero Katie Kohnen recorded 12 digs.

The Musketeers hit .254 as a team for the match as the Golden Knights posted a .117 attack percentage. UCF recorded seven total team blocks.

Astyn Bjorklund led Xavier with 14 kills while Danielle Skrajewski added 13. Jenn Welsh posted a match-high 46 assists.

UCF was playing the third of seven matches away from home to start the year. The team does not make its home debut until Sept. 20.

The contest marked a homecoming for Mitchell, a native of Champlin, Minn.

UCF returns to action at the two-day event on Saturday. The squad will play sixth-ranked Minnesota at 1:30 p.m. (Eastern) and then conclude tournament action with a tilt against North Dakota State at 6 p.m.
