THOMASVILLE, Ga. - Sophomore Jennifer Carati earned UCF's only victory in the first day of competition Friday at the Thomasville Collegiate Invitational at the Glen Arden Country Club.

Carati, who played at the No. 4 position for the Golden Knights last spring, defeated Georgia State's Mateja Podgorsek, 6-2, 3-6 (10-8), in the second session of the round robin tournament. Meanwhile, sophomore Kyla McNicol also took GSU's Rachel Malina to a tiebreak before dropping the match by a score of 6-4, 4-6 (10-8). Senior captain Pamela Fernandez lost her first outing of the day to Anne Breiholtz, 6-0, 6-2.

The Golden Knight trio advanced into round three, where they lost all three matches. In round four, Breiholtz and Fernandez met for a second time and the Lady Panther player took a 6-3, 6-7 (3) (10-7) win.

The Thomasville Collegiate continues on Saturday and Sunday with both doubles and singles play.
