Men's Cross Country Earns Regional Ranking

Sept. 14, 2005

ORLANDO - The UCF men's cross country team was ranked 15th in the U.S. Cross Country Coaches' Association (USCCCA) South Region Poll that was released by the organization on Sept. 13.

The Golden Knights posted the strongest team effort to date at the Gator Invitational last weekend when all eight men finished the 8K course in under 27 minutes. The squad placed third behind host Florida and Miami at the meet.

There were some familiar names in the top 15, including No. 1 Florida State and No. 2 Florida. Alabama was listed in third followed by Auburn in fourth and Georgia in fifth. Miami was 13th, while USF was 14th.

"We are excited to be ranked among the elite in our region," said head coach Marcia Mansur-Wentworth. "The guys have been working hard and we are looking forward to improving upon our position."

The UCF men and women will both be racing at the FSU Invitational on Sept. 17.
