Men's Soccer Voted Eighth in South Region

Sept. 6, 2005

ORLANDO - The UCF men's soccer team was listed at eighth in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) South Region poll on Tuesday. The poll marked the Golden Knights first regional ranking under new head coach Brent Erwin.

The Golden Knights (2-0) earned the nod after shutting out Lafayette, 1-0, and defeating Central Connecticut State, 4-1, en route to winning the UCF Kickoff Classic title last weekend.

North Carolina and Duke took the top two spots in the region followed by Clemson in third and Wake Forest in fourth. Future UCF opponent Davidson rounded out the top five. In fact, No. 6 UAB, No. 7 South Carolina and No. 9 Florida International are all on the Golden Knights' schedule in 2005.

"It is a nice honor for the players to be recognized in a region with some of the top teams, players and coaches in the country." said Erwin. "The season is still young and we still have a lot of work to do. Whenever we can receive positive recognition for UCF, we can be proud."

The Golden Knights return to action when they host Stetson on Sept. 13 at the UCF Soccer Complex. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
