ORLANDO - The UCF football team practiced in full pads Saturday morning on the outdoor practice fields. "I think they (players) are ready to hit someone else than their teammates," stated UCF head coach George O'Leary. "The players had a good practice today. We got a lot of good work done, especially in the heat."
With the season-opener at South Carolina just five days away, their have been several surprises in preseason camp. Perhaps the biggest surprise has been the play of redshirt sophomore wide receiver Sergiori Joachim. The 6-5 North Miami product has been impressive with his ability to get downfield and make plays. Joachim has shown excellent hands and the knack for getting open in the secondary.
"Fall practice has gone pretty well," said Joachim. Nagging injuries derailed Joachim's first two seasons in Orlando, but in 2005 he has stayed healthy through camp and been one of the team's most productive wide outs. Joachim is currently second on the depth chart behind Brandon Marshall at wide receiver.
UCF practices Sunday from 3-5 p.m. and is closed to the public.
