TAMPA - A goal and an assist by sophomore forward Adham Rashwan lifted the UCF men's soccer team over USF, 2-1, in exhibition play at the USF Soccer Stadium on Saturday night.
Kris Raad put USF up 1-0 just 10 minutes into the match, connecting on a header. Rodrigo Hidalgo assisted.
The Golden Knights got the equalizer from senior Jon Imran in the 29th minute assisted by Rashwan and freshman forward Mike Mattson.
Rashwan, who transferred from USF prior to the 2004 season, gave UCF the lead when he scored off a shot from 12 yards in the 78th minute.
Senior goalkeeper Ryan McIntosh made seven saves in the victory, while Dane Brenner had two for the Bulls. Although USF outshot UCF, 17-11, the Golden Knights kept the pressure on the Bulls and owned a 6-1 advantage on corner kicks.
"Because the rivalry between the two teams lends an intensity to the game, it had a real in-season feel," said UCF head coach Brent Erwin. "I think we built upon what we learned in the last week and won thanks to a true team effort."
The Golden Knights make their 2005 regular season debut on Sept. 2 against Lafayette in the UCF Kickoff Classic. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. at the UCF Soccer Complex.
