MALIBU, Calif. - Megan Woods and Jenna Fodor recorded a goal and an assist each for Pepperdine as the Waves defeated No. 28 UCF, 2-1, Friday in women's soccer action.
The Golden Knights lone goal came off the foot of junior Roberta Pelarigo in the 65th minute of action. The goal was Pelarigo's first career goal at UCF. Sophomore Jessica Newport picked up the assist.
The Waves struck first at 18:08 when Woods scored from inside the box off a pass from Fodor. Three minutes later, Fodor netted her goal with Woods and Kelsey Quane earning the assists.
UCF keeper Jennifer Manis had one save during the 90 minutes, while her counterpart, Anna Picarelli had four.
Pepperdine edged UCF in shots, 9-8, while taking eight corner kicks to the Golden Knights' two.
"We came out in the first half going back and forth, but when Pepperdine scored the two goals within three minutes, our momentum fell," said head coach Amanda Cromwell. "In the second half, we changed it up a bit with new personnel and began to come around, especially after Roberta scored the goal."
UCF returns to the field on Sunday when the team will play UC Santa Barbara at 4 p.m. EST. The Golden Knights' home debut will be Sept. 3 when they host Ole Miss on day one of the UCF Invitational at 7 p.m.
