ORLANDO, Fla. - UCF women's soccer head coach Amanda Cromwell announced the Golden Knights' 2005 schedule on Tuesday and the slate features matches against six teams that participated in the NCAA Championship last year. The 2005 season marks the first in Conference USA for the Golden Knights after moving from the Atlantic Sun.
"We have a lot of home games, which is good, and a lot of tough games," Cromwell said. "We are looking forward to C-USA and know that we can be successful in the conference."
After finishing 17-4-2 and receiving an at-large bid into the NCAA Championship in 2004, the Golden Knights will open the season in California where they will take on Pepperdine and UC-Santa Barbara on Aug. 26 and 28.
The squad will then return home for an eight game homestand from the beginning of September through the end of the month. The Knights will host the UCF Tournament during Labor Day weekend and will take on Ole Miss and Buffalo. During the month, UCF will also welcome in-state rivals Florida State, Florida and Florida International in addition to Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Loyola. The Golden Knights will make their C-USA debut at home when the team welcomes Southern Miss to Orlando on Sept. 30.
UCF opens October with three away matches, beginning in Boca Raton against former A-Sun rival Florida Atlantic. The squad will then travel to Tulane and UTEP for more C-USA action.
During the middle of October, the Golden Knights will host C-USA members East Carolina and Marshall. The team plays Miami at home on Oct. 18.
In its last road trip of the season, UCF will travel to Memphis and UAB before rounding out the season at home against Rice Oct. 28 and Houston Oct. 30.
The 2005 C-USA Tournament will be hosted by Rice in Houston, Texas from Nov. 2-6. The top eight teams in the regular season standings qualify for the single elimination tournament.
Florida, Florida State, UAB, Rice, Pepperdine and Loyola all played in the postseason a year ago.
The Golden Knights return 14 letterwinners from last season's squad.
