ORLANDO - A pair of former UCF men's basketball stars - Mark Jones and Dexter Lyons - are playing with the Orlando Magic this summer as the team participates in the Reebok Vegas Summer League. The Magic will play five games at the event, starting July 7.
Jones, a 1998 UCF graduate, recently completed his first season in the NBA. After joining the Magic late in the season, he saw time in 10 contests, averaging 11.6 minutes and 2.3 points per game. Prior to signing with Orlando, Jones spent the 2004-05 Continental Basketball Association campaign with the Great Lakes (Mich.) Storm.
The Magic opened summer league practice in Orlando on July 3. The team will practice at home for three days before heading west.
Lyons, who starred for the Golden Knights from 2002-04, will be spending the summer with an NBA squad for the second consecutive year. He played with Boston in 2004.
After leaving UCF, Lyons played professionally in the Netherlands during the 2005-06 season.
In Las Vegas, the Magic will face New York, Chicago, Charlotte, Dallas and Washington. Sixteen teams are competing at the event. A pair of Orlando's games will be televised on NBA TV on a tape delay basis. The team's game against Dallas will be aired on July 17, while their contests versus Washington will be broadcast on July 18.
