Lightweight Eight Wins Petite Final at IRA Championship

CHERRY HILL, N.J. - The UCF Lightweight Eight won the petite final to place seventh overall at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) Championship on the Cooper River Saturday.

The Golden Knights crew, which featured Robin Capers, Laura Brad, Pamela Wall, Lauren Rice, Laura Bacci, Melissa Kroll, Katherine Motes, Erin Riegel and coxswain Lisa Beltran, finished fourth in the first heat of the morning with a time of 7:11.43.

Only the top three places in the heat - Wisconsin, Georgetown and Stanford - advanced to the grand final, while UCF was relegated to the petite final. The Knights took first there at 7:01.76, nearly 10 seconds ahead of second place Lehigh.

Wisconsin took top honors overall with a first place showing in the grand final at 6:40.47.

The IRA Championship concludes UCF's 2004-05 rowing season.
