ORLANDO - UCF cross country and women's track and field head coach Marcia Mansur-Wentworth announced that Sheree Carter of Tallahassee and Shantile Blackburn of Brooklyn, N.Y. signed National Letters of Intent (NLI) on Tuesday.
A former multi-event standout at Godby High School, Carter specializes in the jumps. During the spring of 2005, she took second in the high jump and third in the long jump at the state championships, while claiming the regional title in both events. Her personal bests are 5 feet, 9 inches in the high jump and 18-10 in the long jump.
"Sheree is a very talented young woman with great potential in the multi-events and jumps," said Mansur-Wentworth. "I am excited to have her join our team."
Blackburn, a middle distance runner from Bishop Loughlin High School, will compete for the Knights' cross country and track teams. She posted personal bests in both the 800-meter (2:15) and 1500m (4:43) run this past spring.
"Shantile has a lot of untapped talent. She has run great 800m and 1500m races without cross country experience. With a strong cross country background, I feel Shantile will be an excellent middle distance runner," Mansur-Wentworth commented.
Carter and Blackburn join the Golden Knights as they make the move into Conference USA in 2005.
