ORLANDO - UCF head women's basketball coach Gail Striegler announced the hiring of Becky Geyer as assistant coach on Wednesday. Geyer's appointment is effectively immediately.

Geyer comes to Orlando after twelve successful seasons as head coach at San Antonio's Trinity University, where she guided the Tigers to a 229-107 record. The team made four appearances in the NCAA Division III Tournament, winning the national title in 2003. Last season, the Tigers went 25-5 and advanced to the NCAA Division III Sweet Sixteen.

Geyer's achievements on the court earned her recognition as Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Coach of the Year and Molten/Women's Division III National Coach of the Year in both 1995 and 2003. The San Antonio Express News also gave her Sportswoman of the Year honors in 2003.

During her tenure at Trinity, Geyer coached 36 All-SCAC honorees, two SCAC Players of the Year, two SCAC Defensive Players of the Year as well as four Division III Honorable Mention All-Americans and the 2005 Jostens Division III National Player of the Year Tara Rohde.

Prior to her appointment at Trinity in 1992, Geyer served as assistant men's basketball coach, physical education instructor and head volleyball coach at Illinois' Augustana College.

"We are excited to have Becky join our program," said Striegler, who is in her sixth year with the program. "Her extensive coaching experience and continued pursuit of excellence from her athletes will be an asset to our team as we make the transition into Conference USA next year."

Geyer holds a bachelor's degree in education from Northern State and a master's degree in education from Illinois State.
