RANDALL'S ISLAND, N.Y. - Junior Tiffany Roebuck placed 11th in the hammer throw to pace the UCF women's track and field team in the first day of competition at the NCAA East Regional at Icahan Stadium on Friday.
Roebuck, the school record holder in three throwing events, fouled in her first two attempts before posting a mark of 169 feet, 11 inches in her final attempt. She entered the competition ranked 15th in region.
Junior Diana Chin earned a mark of 18-7.75 in the long jump to finish among the top 25 in the event. She also ran a 14.07 in the 100-meter hurdles preliminary trials, but missed the finals.
Only the top five finishers in each regional event claim berths to the NCAA Championships, which take place in Sacramento, Calif. from June 8-11. Four others from the four regions earn at-large bids based upon regional marks.
When the NCAA East Regional continues on Saturday, Roebuck will compete in the shot put and senior Ann-Louise Larsen is slated for the high jump.
