ORLANDO - UCF women's track and field head coach Marcia Mansur-Wentworth announced the signing of Jacksonville's Dione Thomas to a National Letter of Intent (NLI) on Monday.
Thomas comes to UCF from Raines High School, where she excelled in the horizontal jumps and sprints. A two-time regional champion in the long jump, she has a personal best of 19 feet, 8.25 inches in that event. In the triple jump, where she has posted a personal record 37-11, she was regional runner-up in 2004 and took third in 2005.
Thomas was also a member of the 2005 state champion 4x100-meter relay team. Her personal best time in the 100m dash is 12.00, while she has a time of 25.70 in the 200m event.
"Dionne has tremendous potential. She will join our strong jumps squad and give us depth in the sprints and relays," said Mansur-Wentworth. "I am excited about having the opportunity to work with her."
