ORLANDO - Derek Hutton drove in four runs as Florida Atlantic took the rubber game of the series against No. 25 UCF, 14-3 at Jay Bergman Field on Sunday afternoon. For the second straight year, FAU won the season series from UCF. In 2004, the Owls were the only A-Sun team to win a series vs. UCF. The Owls are also the first team in the league to win two of three games from the Golden Knights in 2005.
The two teams exchanged a pair of runs in the first inning, and the Golden Knights (36-11, 15-6 A-Sun) took a 3-2 advantage on a Drew Butera homer in the second. The home run was Butera's fifth of the season and his second in as many games.
Florida Atlantic (26-16, 13-11 A-Sun) responded putting a three spot on the board to grab a 5-3 lead in the fourth capped by a RBI single by Mike McBryde.
FAU stretched the lead to 7-3 in the sixth as Hutton slapped a RBI triple off the left center wall. Hutton came across on McBryde's second RBI single of the game.
Brandon Kloess improved to 6-2 giving up three runs on seven hits in six inning of work, while Mike Billek took the loss falling to 3-2. Billek surrendered five runs on eight hits in 5.0 innings of work.
UCF heads to league leading Troy for a three-game set next weekend. First pitch is slated for 7:00 p.m. on Friday night.
Game Notes: UCF dropped to 11-8 this season when the opposition scores first ... for the series, UCF swiped 10 stolen bases bringing the season total to 134 ... the 134 stolen bases rank third in UCF single-season history ... John-Michael Howell tied Dee Brown for the team lead with 48 RBI in the first inning ... Drew Butera has now homered in back-to-back games for the first time in his career... Courtney Propst picked up his 27th stolen base of the season in the fourth inning.
