ORLANDO - UCF women's rowing head coach Leeanne Crain announced the signing of three standout Canadian athletes to National Letters of Intent (NLI) on Tuesday.
Stephanie Adams comes to the Golden Knights from Calgary, Alberta, where she attends William Aberhart High School and rows for the Calgary Rowing Club. She was a member of the 2004 CanAmMex Team and also rowed with the Thunderbird Club that finished second in the Junior Eight event at the 2005 San Diego Crew Classic.
Hailing from Victoria, B.C., Tanis Franchuk attends Claremont Secondary School and is a member of the Vic City Rowing Club. She won a gold medal in the Junior A Eight at the 2004 British Columbia Championship and finished fourth in the Junior Eight Quad at the 2004 Canadian Henley Regatta.
Meanwhile, Christina Smith is a native of Ontario who currently calls Naples, Italy home. As a member of the Circolo della Rema e Vela Italia Rowing Club, she finished second in the Junior Double at the 2004 Italian National Regatta.
The trio joins early signees Tara Rogers, Brittani Bussi, Katie Chapman and Samantha Heinrich.
"Stephanie, Tanis and Christina are all talented athletes with strong foundations in the sport of rowing. I am delighted that they have chosen UCF," said Crain, who is in her second year at the helm. "We have a tremendous class of recruits coming in this fall."
