MACON, Ga. - UCF freshman Anna Yakimchenkova was named Atlantic Sun Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
Yakimchenkova posted a combined record of 4-0 in both singles and doubles play last week. At the No. 5 singles position, she earned a 6-3, 6-0 win over Francina Bonnelly of Marquette then took a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Stetson's Catherine Canady. She currently has an 18-5 mark in singles matches.
With sophomore partner Megan Hunter, Yakimchenkova grabbed two wins at the No. 3 doubles position to improve to a perfect 8-0 in doubles play this season.
It was the first conference weekly award for Yakimchenkova. Senior teammate Kristina Lohmos has also earned the same honor on two occasions this spring.
The No. 69 ranked Golden Knights (10-7) meet Rollins College in an exhibition match on April 7 at 3 p.m. before traveling to DeLand for the 2005 Atlantic Sun Championships from April 14-17.
