Golden Knights Add Two Commitments

April 29, 2005

ORLANDO - UCF volleyball head coach Meg Colado announced on Friday that her program has received National Letters of Intent (NLI) from two prospective student-athletes. Leah Alexander and Vesna Ukic have signed NLIs to attend UCF and join the Golden Knight volleyball program for the 2005 season.

Alexander is a setter from Georgetown, Texas who played at San Jacinto College Central (Texas) for coach Sharon Nelson. Last season, she was named to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I All-America Second Team. Alexander ranked fourth nationally, averaging 12.6 assists per game.

"Leah brings experience to the setting position," said Colado. "She has a good knowledge of the game and is very consistent. We look forward to adding her to our program."

A native of Croatia, Ukic is an outside hitter from Garden City Community College (Kansas), where she played for coach Julie Brookover. Following her sophomore campaign, Ukic garnered a spot on the NJCAA All-Region VI Second Team.

"At 6-2, Vesna is the tallest outside hitter that we have ever had in the program," commented Colado. "She will bring maturity with an international flare to our team. She is a great kid and she works incredibly hard."

The duo joins four student-athletes who all inked NLIs with UCF this past fall.

Starting in 2005, the Golden Knights will compete in Conference USA after spending the last 13 years in the Atlantic Sun. UCF claimed three of the last four A-Sun Championship titles and has appeared in seven NCAA Championships overall.
