MACON, Ga. - UCF women's tennis team co-captains Kristina Lohmos and Pamela Fernandez headlined the list of four Golden Knights who received Atlantic Sun postseason honors, the league office announced on Tuesday.
A senior, Lohmos made the A-Sun First Team for the first time in her career after garnering second team honors in 2004. In singles competition, she compiled a record of 12-12 overall and was 3-1 in conference play. She and freshman doubles partner Kyla McNicol won 10 of their last 11 matches and amassed an 11-4 mark. Lohmos twice earned conference player of the week recognition during the season.
Fernandez, a junior, was also recognized as a member of the all-conference first team. Like Lohmos, she went 3-1 in A-Sun singles competition and owned one of the team's best overall singles records at 16-8. She also posted a five-match winning streak in March.
Meanwhile, rookies Jennifer Carati and Anna Yakimchenkova earned spots on the Atlantic Sun All-Freshman Team. At the team's No. 4 singles position, Carati was 3-1 in conference play with wins over Stetson, Mercer, and Florida Atlantic and posted a 9-14 overall record.
Yakimchenkova, who was tapped for A-Sun Player of the Week honors on April 5, was undefeated in league matches at 3-0 and also had a 12-5 overall record in singles. Coupled with sophomore Megan Hunter in doubles play, she was a perfect 10-0.
The top-seeded Golden Knights (11-8, 4-0 A-Sun) advanced to the semifinals in their final Atlantic Sun Championship. They make the move to Conference USA in the fall of 2005.
