Men's Tennis Garners All-Conference Recognition

A-Sun All-Conference Team

April 25, 2005

MACON, Ga. - After winning its third consecutive league title, the UCF men's tennis team was well represented when the Atlantic Sun announced its all-conference teams on Monday. A pair of Golden Knights - senior Joel Allen and junior Ener Gursoy - were named to the all-conference first team.

For the second time in three seasons, Bobby Cashman was recognized as the conference coach of the year. With its victory in the A-Sun Championship title match against Troy on April 17, UCF (14-8) earned its third straight berth in the NCAA Regionals.

In his sixth season at UCF, Cashman's squad has played in five straight A-Sun title matches. After starting the campaign with a 2-6 record, his team has won 12 of its last 14 contests. Cashman also earned the league's coach of the year honor in 2003.

Allen, who is 15-5 during dual-match play in 2005, won all three of his singles tilts at the conference tournament. A year ago, he was a second-team all-conference selection.

UCF's No. 1 player, Gursoy, is 9-5 at the top spot this season. Last season, he garnered a spot on the all-league second team.

Senior Antonio Sierra earned a position on the all-conference second team. He leads the Golden Knights with 16 victories on the year and is a perfect 10-0 at the No. 4 spot. In A-Sun tournament play, he went 3-0. Sierra, who is the program's career leader in victories with 75, was a first-team all-conference pick in 2004.

Newcomer Sinan Sudas was selected to the all-freshman squad. In his first season in Orlando, Sudas has won five matches, mostly at the bottom of the lineup.

Since the 2002 season, UCF has had eight student-athletes garner all-conference accolades, with six earning first team recognition.
