TAMPA, Fla. - Samantha Ray was 3-for-3 for USF as the Bulls defeated UCF Wednesday afternoon in Tampa. The Golden Knights fell to 38-23-1 on the season, while USF improved to 33-20.
Cici Alvarez and Kacie Feaster were both 2-for-3 at the plate for the Golden Knights. Lindsay Enders was tagged with the loss after pitching six innings and giving up five runs, four earned, on eight hits.
USF jumped out to the early lead when the Bulls plated an unearned run in the bottom of the first on one hit and an error.
The Bulls put a two spot on the board in the bottom of the third on three hits. Tiffany Stewart singled to right field with bases loaded, scoring both runs.
USF added two more runs in the fourth inning when Carmela Liwag hit a two-run double to left center scoring Kim Riker and Samantha Ray.
The Golden Knights put a dent on the board in the top of the sixth. Cat Snapp singled up the middle only to have Nicole Balogh come in to pinch run. Feaster followed Snapp's single with one of her to center field. With runners on first and second, Jania Shinhoster ripped a double to left center scoring both runs.
UCF added one more run in the top of the seventh on a sac fly by Enders, however, it was not enough to overcome the Bulls.
The Black and Gold had three runs on six hits with one error, while USF had five runs on eight hits with three errors.
Ray led the Bulls at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two runs. Bree Spence earned the win in the circle, going 5.1 innings and giving up two runs on six hits, while Nicole Christensen picked up the save after pitching one complete inning and giving up one unearned run.
The Golden Knights return the softball diamond on Wednesday when the team travels to Tampa to take on the USF Bulls. UCF returns home on Saturday, April 23 when the squad hosts Jacksonville for Senior Day. The Senior Day activities are slated to begin at 1:30 p.m. with the first pitch taking place at 2 p.m.
