DeLAND - The third-seeded UCF men's tennis team rolled past No. 6 Florida Atlantic, 4-0, in quarterfinal action on Friday at the Atlantic Sun Championships at the Earl Brown City Courts. The Golden Knights (12-8) will face second-seeded Georgia State in semifinal play on Saturday at noon.
UCF opened the match by quickly taking the doubles point. At No. 2, sophomore Sebastian Delgado and junior Ener Gursoy posted an 8-2 win over F.J. Schofield and J.P. Bounassar.
The senior duo of Simon Jaeger and Rhett Rosen also earned an 8-2 victory, topping David Demers and Kevin Obletz at No. 3.
After claiming the doubles point, the Golden Knights registered three singles victories to earn the win. Delgado defeated Obletz, 6-0, 7-5 at No. 5.
At No. 3, senior Antonio Sierra got past Demers (6-3, 7-5). Senior Joel Allen earned a 7-5, 7-6 win over Schofield at No. 2.
The Owls conclude their season with an 8-12 mark.
Georgia State (13-6) was a 5-0 winner over Mercer earlier in the day. UCF has not faced the Panthers this season. The teams were scheduled to play on Feb. 20 in Atlanta, Ga., but the match was cancelled due to inclement weather.
