ORLANDO - The UCF men's cross country team signed Chris Mullaney of Neptune Beach to a National Letter of Intent (NLI), head coach Marcia Mansur-Wentworth announced on Friday.
Mullaney, who attends Jacksonville's Bishop Kenny High School, was the 2004 district and regional cross country champion. His season best time of 15:33 in the 5K was ranked ninth in the state. He was also fourth at the Florida All-Star Cross Country meet last season.
He currently has the state's fourth best time in the 3200m at 9:24.41, which was set at the Mobile Meet of Champions earlier this month.
"Chris is a very dedicated student-athlete. I feel he has the ability to make an immediate impact at the college level," said Mansur-Wentworth. "I am excited to work with him this fall."
The UCF men's cross country team, which took third place in the Atlantic Sun Conference Championships the past two seasons, moves into Conference USA in 2005.
