Softball Defeats Florida State for the First Time in Program History

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Jania Shinhoster and Kacie Feaster led UCF at the plate as the Golden Knights split with Florida State Wednesday night. The Black and Gold (35-21-1) won game one 2-1 only to have the Seminoles (25-17) take game two in the bottom of the seventh, 1-0. The game one win was the first for UCF against FSU.

Shinhoster was 2-for-6 with a triple, a single and an RBI, while Feaster was 2-for-6 with a double, a single and a run.

Lindsay Enders picked up the win in the circle for UCF after pitching all seven innings and giving up one run on five hits, five walks and six strikeouts. Ashley Baker pitched the complete game for UCF giving up one run on four hits, one walk and two strikeouts.

Nikki Green continued her hot streak from the weekend when she hit a single into left field in the top of the first scoring Stephanie Best from third.

Florida State tied it up in the bottom of the third when Natasha Jacob scored from second on an error.

The Golden Knights doubled their score in the top of the fifth after Feaster knocked a double into left center. Shinhoster ripped a triple into right field scoring Feaster from second.

The Seminoles threatened in the bottom of the seventh when Tatiana George hit a double into right field, however, the FSU was unable to bring her around.

Shinhoster, Green and Feaster were each 1-for-3 at the plate for the Golden Knights, while Enders improved to 17-10 on the season in the circle.

Jacob, George, Lesley Palmer, Veronica Wootson and Brittany Osmon had the five Seminole hits. Tiffany McDonald was tagged with the loss in game one after pitching 4.1 innings and giving up two runs on three hits, two walks and five strikeouts.

UCF and Florida State took a 0-0 tie into the seventh inning in the nightcap with the Seminoles winning 1-0 on a double to center field by LaShaun Davis scoring Carly Brieske from second.

The Golden Knights had no runs on four hits and no errors for the second game, while the Noles had one run on four hits and two errors.

Shinhoster, Crystle Krafft, Cat Snapp and Feaster had the four hits for the Black and Gold. Baker fell to 5-4 on the season after to loss.

Davis led Florida State at the plate, going 2-for-3 with game-winning hit. Casey Hunter earned the win in the circle going seven innings and giving up four hits with two walks and five strikeouts.

The Golden Knights return to the softball diamond on Friday when the squad will take on Georgia State in Atlanta with the first pitch set for 4 p.m. The Black and Gold's next home game is Saturday, April 23 when Jacksonville comes to town for Senior Day. The Senior Day activities will begin at 1:30 p.m. with the first pitch to follow at 2 p.m.
