BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - Lindsay Enders was 5-for-8 at the plate plus a win in the circle for UCF as the Golden Knights swept Gardner-Webb 5-0 in the first game and 11-2 in the second game. With the wins, the Black and Gold improved to 34-20-1 on the season and 7-3 in the Atlantic Sun, while the Bulldogs fell to 15-26-1 on the season and 1-10 in the A-Sun.
Enders had one home run, two doubles, three singles, four RBI and one run scored, while Nikki Green and Jania Shinhoster were both 4-for-8 at the plate.
Enders and Ashley Baker earned the wins for UCF in the circle.
UCF scored two in the top of the first when Enders ripped a double to center field scoring Shinhoster and Cici Alvarez. The Golden Knights continued scoring in the top of the second when Green hit a solo home run, her first of the season, over the center field fence followed by three singles and another run. At the end of the two innings, UCF was up 4-0.
Gardner-Webb broke up Enders no-hitter in the bottom of the fourth when Rachel Riopel hit a single into left field.
UCF added another run in the top of the seventh to give the Golden Knights a 5-0 win over the Bulldogs.
The Golden Knights had five runs on eight hits and no errors, while the Bulldogs had no runs on five hits and three errors.
For UCF, Enders was 3-for-4 with one double, two singles and two RBI, while Shinhoster was 2-for-3 at the plate with two singles, one walk, one RBI and one run scored.
Enders picked up the win in game one bringing her record to 16-10 on the season. She pitched the complete-game shutout giving up just five hits and two walks, while striking out a career-high 14 batters.
For Gardner-Webb, Riopel, Abbie Looper, Christie Barlow, Joanna Ward, Stephanie Taylor and Pam Parker each had one hit. Stacie Reichert was tagged with the loss after pitching four innings and giving up four runs on seven hits and four walks.
The second game started off with Gardner-Webb plating two runs in the bottom of the first on two singles, a hit batter and an error.
UCF cut Gardner-Webb's lead in half in the top of the second when Crystle Krafft scored on two errors in one play.
In the top of the third, Bryttani Lindheim singled to center field, plating two more runs for the Golden Knights. Enders, batting as the designated player, hit her second home run of the season over the center field fence, scoring Lindheim from second. Krafft followed Enders home run up with a single to center field. Krafft scored when Green hit a triple to left field giving the Knights a 6-2 lead over the Bulldogs.
Stephanie Best belted a two-run homer, her 19th of the season, over the left field fence in the top of the fourth scoring Lindheim.
Green knocked her second home run of the afternoon over the left field fence in the top of the sixth, plating Krafft who reached first on a fielder's choice. Baker scored on a Shinhoster single to center field, giving the Black and Gold an 11-2 win.
The Golden Knights had 11 runs on 16 hits and one error for the second game, while the Bulldogs had two runs on four hits and two errors.
For UCF in the second game, Green was 3-for-4 with one home run, one triple, one single, three RBI and one run scored. Baker picked up the win in the circle for the Golden Knights after pitching six innings, giving up two runs on four hits, one walk and four strikeouts.
Looper, Kelly Linsley, Riopel and Barlow had the four hits for the Bulldogs with Ashley Lewis getting the loss in the circle after pitching four innings and giving up eight runs on nine hits and four walks.
The Golden Knights return to the softball diamond on Wednesday, April 13 when they travel to Tallahassee, Fla. to take on Florida State with the first pitch slated for 6 p.m.
