ORLANDO - The UCF men's tennis team outlasted visiting Pacific to earn a 4-3 victory on Saturday at the UCF Tennis Complex. The Golden Knights improve to 9-8 on the year while Pacific drops to 7-7.
The match took seven and a half hours to complete due to rain delays.
Due to the threat of inclement weather, the squads competed in singles play to start the contest. In solo competition, each team won three matches.
After junior Ener Gursoy and sophomore Sebastian Delgado were victorious for UCF at No. 3 doubles and the Tigers claimed a win at No. 2, the match came down to the top spot.
The Golden Knights senior tandem of Joel Allen and Antonio Sierra topped Arnar Sigurdsson and Vladimor Zdravkovic, 8-6, to hand UCF the victory.
On the singles side, UCF swept the bottom three positions. At No. 6, Delgado breezed to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Robert Price. Sierra held on to defeat Zdravkovic (6-1, 2-6, 6-1) at No. 4.
Senior Simon Jaeger rallied to earn a 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 victory against Alan Kelly at No. 5.
With UCF leading the match 3-2, Sigurdsson forced doubles play, getting past Allen at No. 1, 6-3, 6-7, 6-3.
The Golden Knights close out a four-match homestand on Wednesday, March 30, hosting Arkansas-Little Rock. First serve at the UCF Tennis Complex is slated for 2 p.m.
