March 22, 2005

MACON, Ga. - For the second time this season, UCF tennis players have swept the Atlantic Sun Conference honors as senior Kristina Lohmos and junior Ener Gursoy were named players of the week, the league announced Tuesday.

Both players went 2-0 on the week while playing at the top singles spot.

Lohmos, a co-captain on the women's squad, posted a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Anna Bentzer of 75th-ranked UC-Irvine to start the week. She also earned a 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-3 win over Houston's Biliana Dimovska. Lohmos was down 3-0 in the final set, but came back to help the Golden Knights claim their first win over the Cougars in three years. The Motala, Sweden native has joined doubles partner Kyla McNicol to take seven consecutive matches.

Gursoy, from Adana, Turkey, has led the men's team to six straight victories. He started the week strong with a 7-6, 6-3 win over Denver's Niklas Presson as the Golden Knights earned a 7-0 victory. On Friday, he defeated Iowa's Chaitu Malempati, 6-1, 7-6. Gursoy has now won five of his last six singles matches. This marks the first time in his career that he has won A-Sun Player-of-the-Week honors.

Lohmos also received the conference weekly honor on March 2. UCF senior Joel Allen took the men's honor that week.

The women's team (8-7) hosts Kansas on Wednesday. The Golden Knight men's squad (8-6) plays Tennessee at home on Tuesday afternoon.
