ORLANDO - The UCF women's tennis team hopes to continue its hot streak as it hosts Kansas on Wednesday at the UCF Tennis Complex. First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m.
The Golden Knights have played well in the last month winning six of their last seven matches in a streak that dates back to Feb. 22. The team continues to benefit from the leadership of its captains - senior Kristina Lohmos and junior Pamela Fernandez.
Much like the squad as a whole, Lohmos has won six of her last seven outings - including an impressive come-from-behind victory against Houston's Biljana Dimovska on Saturday. She lost the first set and - after winning the second stanza - was down 3-0 in the deciding third set before rebounding for the win.
When joined by freshman partner Kyla McNicol, Lohmos has been equally dangerous in doubles competition as the duo has posted a seven-match winning streak.
Meanwhile, Fernandez boasts the team's best singles record this year with a 14-7 overall singles record, including a 9-3 mark at the No. 2 position.
Thanks to a 4-3 victory over Oklahoma State on March 19, the visiting Jayhawks brought a 4-9 record to Florida. Their Monday outing at USF was cancelled due to inclement weather. KU junior Christine Skoda has won her previous four matches as the No. 2 singles player.
Wednesday's match-up marks the first meeting between the two schools.
