MACON, Ga. - UCF senior tennis players Kristina Lohmos and Joel Allen were named Atlantic Sun Player of the Week for their respective sports, the conference office announced on Wednesday.
Lohmos, who co-captains the women's team, went undefeated in both singles and doubles competition. She started off the week by defeating Jacksonville's Emese Sulyos, 7-5, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. The 2004 A-Sun Player of the Year Sulyos had previously dropped only one of her 22 career matches.
A second-team all-conference selection in 2003, Lohmos then defeated Florida A&M's Charlana Brown, 6-1, 6-0, before earning a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 battle over Davidson's Kelly Fillnow. In doubles action, Lohmos and freshman partner Kyla McNicol earned three consecutive victories.
Meanwhile, Allen also went undefeated in doubles action with senior partner Antonio Sierra. The tandem beat Miami's No. 40 ranked duo of Josh Cohen and Eric Hechtman, 8-3, on Feb. 25 then took an identical 8-3 win over league rival Florida Atlantic's Antonio Magres and Eurgenio Pellman the following day.
Allen also went 1-1 in singles competition. After losing to UM's John Hoyes, 6-4, 6-4, on Friday, Allen rebounded to take a 6-2, 6-0 victory over FAU's David Demers.
