Softball Falls to Purdue in the Final Day of the 2005 Speedline Tournament

CLEARWATER, Fla. - Kacie Feaster led UCF with a double and a run scored as UCF fell to Purdue, 2-1. The Golden Knights fell to 22-15-1 on the season, while the Boilermakers improved to 14-11.

Feaster was 1-for-1 with the double after coming in for an injured Bryttani Lindheim who reached base in the second on an error. Cici Alvarez 1-for-2 at the plate with a single to centerfield, while Stephanie Best was 1-for-3 with a single to leftfield and Jania Shinhoster was 1-for-3 with a bunt single.

Purdue jumped out to the early lead when Andrea Hillsey hit a solo shot over the fence in left-center. UCF threatened in the bottom of the third when Lindheim reached second on an error by the right fielder, however, the Golden Knights were unable to score the run.

The Boilermakers put another run on the board in the top of the sixth when Shelli Messer walked and advanced to second on a sac bunt by Staci Falzon. Messer scored from second on a triple to right field by Hillsey. Purdue was unable to score Hillsey from third.

The Knights scored in their half of the sixth inning when Feaster hit a double into centerfield and then advanced to third on the throw in. Alvarez earned the RBI when she singled to centerfield scoring Feaster. The inning ended with Purdue up, 2-1.

In the seventh inning, Crystle Krafft reached on an error by the third baseman. Shinhoster laid down a bunt that advanced Krafft to second. Krafft tried for third on a bobble by the second baseman, who was covering first, but was thrown out. The game ended with Purdue up, 2-1.

Lindsay Enders (8-9) took the loss in the circle after striking out six and walking two. Diana LaRiva (5-2) earned the win for the Boilermakers, while Melissa Burns had her third save of the season.

As a team, the Knights had one run on four hits with no errors, while Purdue had two runs on three hits and one error.

Hillsey led the Boilermakers after going 2-for-3 with a homerun and a triple. Tricia Lilley had the other hit for Purdue after going 1-for-3 at the plate with a single to right field.

UCF returns to action on Tuesday when they host Bradley University in a doubleheader at the UCF Softball Complex with the first pitch taking place at 1 p.m.
