ORLANDO - Dee Brown hit two home runs and drove in six runs as No. 26 UCF shutout Campbell 18-0 Saturday afternoon in the first game of a day-night doubleheader at Jay Bergman Field. Brown moved into 10th place in Atlantic Sun conference history in career RBI with 179 after the career-high six RBI vs. the Camels.
With 18 runs vs. the Camels, UCF (18-3, 2-0 A-Sun) has scored 58 runs over its last three games as UCF has won four straight on the year.
UCF hit four home runs on the day to set a new Jay Bergman Field record.
For the second straight game, Dee Brown went deep as the senior left fielder crushed a two-run home run in the first to put UCF out on top, 2-0. The home run traveled over 400 feet to center field, just to the left of the batter's eye in center. Marshall Bernhard added a two-out, RBI-single up the middle to give the Golden Knights a 3-0 lead after one inning of play.
In the third, Brown blasted his second home run of the game and his third homer in his last four at-bats to increase the lead to 4-0. The majestic blast cleared the batter's eye in straight-away center, an estimated 435 feet.
With the two homers, Brown became the first UCF player since Jeremy Frost vs. Mercer on May 18, 2002 to hit two home runs in a game.
The Golden Knights added a two-out, bases loaded double by Justin Mahon in the third to give UCF a 7-0 advantage after three innings of play.
UCF ripped the game wide open in the fourth on one swing when Ryan Bono drilled a grand slam down the right field line to give the Golden Knights an 11-0 lead. Bono's slam marked the first time since Mike Myers at Jacksonville on April 20, 2002 that a UCF player hit a grand slam.
UCF continued its power display in the fifth when Kevin Richmond connected on a two-run home run to right field to give UCF a 13-0 lead. The homer was UCF's fourth of the game, the most for UCF in a game since hitting five vs. Purdue in 2001.
The Golden Knights added five runs over the final three innings to close out the scoring at 18-0.
Mike Billek and Matt McClung combined for the first shutout of the season for UCF. Billek moved to 2-1 with 6.0 innings of scoreless baseball. The junior struck out five and did not issue a walk on the day. McClung pitched the final 3.0 innings for his first career save.
UCF totaled 12 hits, including two by Richmond, three by Brown and two by John-Michael Howell.
