UCF Runners Go the Distance at Carolina Classic

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Paced by the performances of sophomores Karen Kozub and Christina Jones in the 800m, the UCF women's track and field team put forth an impressive effort at the Carolina Classic on Saturday.

With a time of 2:19.16, Kozub claimed the top honor in the 800m besting teammate Jones, who came in second at 2:20.03. Meanwhile, sophomore LaToya Williams took fourth in the 400m at 59.66.

In the 60m hurdles, freshman Vicky Chin posted a time of 8.89 seconds for sixth place. Later, Chin joined Kozub, Williams and junior Tavia Record to finish fourth in the 4X400m relay at 4:00.11.

Sophomore Jenny Rogan was seventh in the 200m and ninth in the 60m. Sophomore Kaprice Williams finished 14th in both events, and sophomore LaToya Green was 12th in the 60m.

In other running events, junior Astrid Claessens took 11th in the mile at 5:15.40, while freshman Allison Palmer placed ninth in the 5,000m.

Rounding out UCF's top ten efforts was freshman Virginia Traynor, who finished ninth in the shot put with a mark of 40-2.75.

The Golden Knights return to the track on Sunday at the Gator Invitational in Gainesville.
