Feb. 4, 2005

ORLANDO - No. 61 Auburn topped host UCF, 6-1, in women's tennis action at the UCF Tennis Complex on Friday.

The Golden Knights (0-2) won the first match of the day at No. 3 doubles when the duo of freshman Jennifer Carati and sophomore Megan Rosario-Hunter defeated Ashley Cowart and Tori Almagno, 8-6. After losing at No. 1 doubles, UCF was up 4-1 in the No. 2 match before eventually succumbing 8-6.

Up 1-0 entering singles play, the Tigers (2-0) established the victory after grabbing wins at positions three through five.

Although the match had been decided, the Knights continued to battle. At the No. 6 position, Rosario-Hunter dropped the first set, 2-6, to Nancy Peaden before rebounding for a 6-2 win in the second. The two players took the third set to a tiebreaker, which Peaden won 7-4.

UCF's lone point came from a hard fought match at the No. 2 position. Junior co-captain Pamela Fernandez earned a 7-6 win in the first set. After losing the second set to Isabel Rosenbrock, 7-5, Fernandez bounced back to take the tiebreaker, 10-3.

"Pam played a great match. She fought hard for that win," said head coach Patricia Allison, who is in her sixth year at the helm of the program.

The Golden Knights return to action on Saturday when they host No. 75 Florida International at the UCF Tennis Complex. First serve is scheduled for 10 a.m.
