ORLANDO - The UCF men's tennis team earned its first victory of the season as it defeated crosstown rival Rollins College (0-1), 6-1, on Friday afternoon.
The Golden Knights (1-3) opened the match by easily winning the doubles point. Seniors Joel Allen and Antonio Sierra beat Matt Umbers and Jonothon Gomez, 8-1 at No. 1 doubles while UCF took the No. 2 and No. 3 matches by identical 8-3 scores.
The Knights' momentum carried into singles play as junior Ener Gursoy topped Umbers, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1. Freshman Sinan Sudas defeated Albin Hubscher at the No. 6 position, 6-1, 6-2, before Sierra clinched the victory at No. 2 with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Jeff Birse.
Allen and junior Sebastian Delgado also claimed victory their singles matches.
Next up, the Golden Knights take on Barry on the Rollins College campus. The match is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m.
