ORLANDO - UCF battled Davidson to a 4-3 victory in women's tennis action on a windy Monday afternoon at the UCF Tennis Complex. With the win, the Golden Knights improved to 5-6 overall and extended their winning streak to three matches. The Wildcats fell to 4-3.
The two teams started the match with a tough fight for the doubles point. UCF's No. 1 tandem of senior Kristina Lohmos and freshman Kyla McNicol defeated Kelly and Meghan Fillnow, 8-3, before Davidson won at No. 3 by a score of 8-6. The Knights won after junior Pamela Fernandez and sophomore Becky Gordon edged Kelsey Linville and Meggie Patterson, 9-8, with a 7-2 tiebreaker victory at No. 2.
Lohmos also came up with a big singles victory over Kelly Fillnow, taking a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 win at No. 1. Both freshmen Jennifer Carati and Anna Yakimchenkova defeated their opponents by scores of 6-3, 6-3 at No. 4 and No. 6, respectively.
The Golden Knights return to action at Mercer on March 5 at 1 p.m.
