ORLANDO - UCF swept Florida A&M, 7-0, in women's tennis action on Saturday at the UCF Tennis Complex. With the win, the Golden Knights improved to 4-6 overall, while Rattlerettes dropped to 7-4.
In doubles competition, the Knights grabbed the advantage with a quick 8-0 at No. 3 then took the point by earning an 8-1 victory at No. 2 . UCF also won at No. 1 by a score of 8-2.
The Golden Knights continued to roll in singles action. Freshman Jennifer Carati (Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela) was up 4-0 against Zama Mkhize before Mkhize retired. Senior Kristina Lohmos took an easy win, 6-1, 6-0 over Charlana Brown at No. 2, before senior Ola Luczak clinched the match by defeating Anita Abad, 6-1, 6-2 at No.3.
Freshman Anna Yakimchenkova and sophomore Megan Hunter also grabbed victories.
Meanwhile, at the No. 1 position, junior Pamela Fernandez lost the first set to Eka Zvania, 6-2, and was down 4-2 before rebounding to take a 7-5 win. She continued to fight for every point in the tiebreaker, eventually taking a 12-10 decision for the Knights' sweep.
The Golden Knights return to action on Monday when they host Davidson at 1 p.m.
