BOCA RATON - Playing its second match on the road in two days, the UCF men's tennis team defeated Atlantic Sun rival Florida Atlantic, 6-1, Saturday morning. The Golden Knights improve to 3-6 overall and 1-1 in league play. Florida Atlantic drops to 2-5 and 1-2.
UCF won five of six singles matches. At No. 1, junior Ener Gursoy rallied to top Antonello Magris, 6-7, 6-1, 10-4. Senior Joel Allen topped David Demers, 6-2, 6-0, at No 3.
Playing against J.P. Bounassar at No. 4, senior Antonio Sierra posted a 6-2, 6-4 victory. Sophomore Sebastian Delgado also won in two sets, 6-3, 6-2, over Kevin Obletz at No. 5.
At the No. 6 position, senior Paul Ramy got past Mauricio Paiz, 6-1, 4-6, 10-7.
The Golden Knights opened the match by taking all three doubles matches to claim the first point of the day. Allen and Sierra eased past Magris and Eugenio Pellman at No. 1, 8-3.
Seniors Simon Jaeger and Rhett Rosen won 8-4 against F.J. Schofield and Bounassar at No. 2. At No. 3, Delgado and Gursoy defeated Obletz and Demers, 8-6.
UCF returns to action on Thursday, March 3, playing an A-Sun match at Stetson.
