CLEVELAND, Ohio - After its highest finish ever in the United States Sports Academy Director's Cup standings in 2004, UCF is off to a strong start again this year and is currently ranked 49th of 327 Division I athletic programs in the Directors' Cup Fall Standings as determined by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA).
Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 20 sports -10 women's and 10 men's.
The Golden Knights, who finished 72nd last year with 238 points, have totaled 100 points thus far as both the men's and women's soccer teams each earned 50 points for advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Two in-state rivals are close to UCF in the standings. Florida is seven spots higher at No. 42 with 119 points, while Florida State ranks at No. 47 with 113 points. No other Atlantic Sun or Mid-American Conference schools have yet scored points.
The United States Sports Academy Directors' Cup is a joint venture between NACDA and USA Today and is sponsored by the United States Sports Academy in Daphne, Ala.
