BUIES CREEK, N.C. - The UCF men's basketball team (20-8, 12-7) concludes the regular season on Saturday, playing host Campbell at 4 p.m. at Carter Gym. The Golden Knights still have a chance to claim the Atlantic Sun regular season crown, but will need Gardner-Webb to lose to Florida Atlantic on Saturday evening.
Campbell enters the contest at 2-24 and 0-19 in the league.
ABOUT UCF UCF concludes the regular season on the road at Campbell. The Golden Knights have won eight of their last nine contests, including four in a row, and have secured a spot in the Atlantic Sun Championship.
Josh Peppers is the squad's top scorer at 13.5 points per game. Gary Johnson (12.8) and Anthony Williams (11.4) are also averaging double-digits in scoring. Williams is first on the team with 5.9 rebounds per outing. Kingsley Edwards has totaled 113 assists and Johnson paces UCF with 59 steals on the year.
Overall, the Golden Knights are scoring 70 points per game, while allowing an A-Sun low of 65.7. From the floor, the team is shooting 46.2 percent - the top mark in the league. At the line, UCF is hitting at a 68.6 percent clip and the team is making 36.4 of its three-point field goal attempts. UCF is the top rebounding squad in the conference with a +6.8 margin, which also ranks 14th nationally.
ABOUT CAMPBELL Campbell has posted 21 straight losses. Most recently, the Camels dropped an 89-83 contest at home to Florida Atlantic on Thursday, despite outrebounding the Owls, 44-30.
Maurice Latham recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. He also added six assists. Ruell Pringle also finished with 16 points and Diego Aguiar came off the bench to post 14 points and eight boards.
As a team, Campbell is averaging a league-low 62.7 points each game, but is allowing 65.2. From the field, the squad is shooting 40.9 percent, the worst mark in the conference. Opponents are shooting 47.7 percent overall. Each game, the Camels are committing an A-Sun-high 19 turnovers.
Pringle leads the team with 14.2 points per game. Latham is the only other playing averaging double-figures in points (11.5). Comerlee Poole is the Camels top rebounder with 8.1 boards a contest, placing him third among league leaders.
SERIES HISTORY UCF leads the all-time series, 19-7, and has won eight-of-13 games in Buies Creek. Overall, the Golden Knights have taken the last four contests, most recently a 90-73 game in Orlando on Dec. 16.
In that meeting, UCF shot 61.4 percent from the floor and made 12-of-26 shots from three-point range. Anthony Williams led the squad with 18 points and Kingsley Edwards sank five treys on his way to 19 points. Gary Johnson added 13 points and seven assists and Josh Peppers scored 15 points in only 20 minutes. Ruell Pringle recorded a game-high 25 points on 9-of-11 shooting for the Camels. Maurice Latham scored 22 points.
