The team just got back from the second tournament of the season. Florida International University hosted the 54-hole tournament played at Miccosukee Championship Course. The team consisted of Ashley, Lauren, Holly, Jess and Annabel.

I played the course during the Christmas break and know what challenges the team met in Miami. Miccosukee is an open course, and therefore a windy course. The wind was a factor the first day, which made the course difficult to maneuver.

The girls started the day with accidentally breaking Annabel's pull cart, which she uses due to her bad back, and that forced her to carry the bag the first round. The girls played 36 holes and were on the course all day long. The first round took six hours, which is about two hours longer than what a normal round should take. "The second round just flew by after that slow beginning," Ashley said.

She was able to handle the unhurried pace and shot 74 & 77. The scores were relatively high, but the course is very demanding with its narrow fairways, many hazards and difficult greens. After a long first day, the team was in 12th spot.

On the second day the wind calmed down and the girls managed to adjust to the course and shot their best round of the tournament with a score of 313. Ashley shot 75 and finished in fifth place out of almost 100 players. Great tournament, Ash!

This week we have Wednesday and Thursday to catch up school work, before the team hits the course again for practice on Friday morning. By then, I hope to be cleared by the doctor and ready to play. Until next week*
