ORLANDO, Fla. - UCF women's basketball travels to Troy, Ala. to take on Troy University on Thursday at 8 p.m. in the Trojan Arena. The Golden Knights enter the game with a 17-7 mark on the season and 15-2 in the A-Sun, while the Lady Trojans are 10-13 on the season and 9-7 in the conference.
Junior Celeste Hudson tops UCF in points with 11.7 per game, while senior Ali Roberts is also in double digits with 11.3 points per game. Junior Shelby Weber paces the Golden Knights in rebounds with 6.6 boards per outing. Sophomore Lashaunda Slade leads the Black and Gold in assists with 4.33 per game, while Weber and Roberts both top the team in blocks with 2.38 per game.
UCF currently tops the Atlantic Sun with a 15-2 (.882) mark in conference play. In the A-Sun statistics, the Golden Knights rank first in scoring defense (55.4 per game), blocked shots (6.29 per game), field goal percentage defense (35.2%), rebounding margin (+5.2), rebounding defense (35.8 per game) and scoring margin (+6.4), while they are second in field goal percentage (41.0%), three-point field goal percentage defense (29.3%) and rebounding offense (41.0 per game).
Individually, Hudson ranks 16th in scoring, while Roberts is 18th and sophomore Francine Houston is 25th with 9.7 points per game. Slade is third in assists among A-Sun players and Hudson is ninth with 3.04 per game. Roberts is also sixth in the conference in field goal percentage with 49.5%, while senior Takira Allen is ninth with 47.1%. Hudson ranks third among A-Sun players in steals with 2.39 per game. Ranked second in the blocked shots department are Weber and Roberts, while Allen is 12th (0.78 per game). Hudson (1.91 per game) ranks ninth in three-point field goals made.
Nationally, UCF is ranked seventh in blocked shots per game (6.3), 13th in field goal percentage defense (35.2), 25th in scoring defense (55.4 per game), 39th in rebound margin (5.3) and 50th in won-lost percentage (70.8).
Last time out, the Golden Knights defeated Campbell, 81-40. Sophomore Claudia Johnson led the Knights with 18 points, a career-high, after hitting 6-of-11 from behind the three-point line. Weber paced the Black and Gold in rebounds with seven, while Slade had seven assists. Roberts had a team-high five blocks, while Weber, Slade, Houston and Hudson had two steals each.
Laura Lee Holman tops Troy with 13.5 points per game, while Amy Lewis has 12.8 and Alecia Jones has 11.3. Jones leads the Lady Trojans in rebounds with 6.6 per contest, while Kerri Fiehrer has 5.6 assists per game. Valensia Hairston paces the team in steals (1.69 per game) and blocks (0.65 per game).
Troy is currently tied for fourth in the A-Sun standings with a .562 winning percentage. In the A-Sun statistics, the Lady Trojans rank first in field goal percentage (41.2%), while placing fourth in assists (13.57 per game). Troy is also fifth in scoring offense (61.9 per game), scoring margin (-1.8)and three-point field goal percentage defense (32.4%), while also ranking sixth in scoring defense (63.7 per game), free throw percentage (66.0%), field goal percentage defense (39.8%) and steals (8.13 per game).
Individually, Holman is ninth among A-Sun players in scoring, while Lewis is 12th, Jones is 17th and Audrey Muse is 23rd (9.8 per game). Jones is also second in field goal percentage (51.5%), while Lewis is 10th (47.0%). Fiehrer paces the conference in assists.
Last time out, Troy was defeated by Stetson, 65-61, in DeLand, Fla. Jones led the Lady Trojans with 16 points followed by Lewis with 14, Hairston with 13 and Holman with 10. Holman paced Troy in rebounds with seven. Fiehrer topped the Lady Trojans in assists (5) and steals (4), while Muse had four blocks.
This will be the 12th and final time that UCF and Troy meet on the basketball court as Atlantic Sun rivals with the Golden Knights leading the series 6-5. UCF and Troy last played on January 8, 2005 at UCF Arena in Orlando with the Golden Knights defeating the Lady Trojans, 55-43.
