MACON, Ga. - UCF sophomore Josh Peppers earned the Atlantic Sun Men's Basketball Player of the Week award on Monday after leading the Golden Knights to a pair of home victories against conference rivals Mercer and Georgia State.
Peppers averaged 22 points and 3.5 assists on the week, while shooting 16-of-27 (59.3 percent) from the floor. Against Mercer (Feb. 17), he scored 22 points on 8-of-12 shooting and added six assists. In the win over the Panthers on Feb. 19, he again recorded 22 points. With Georgia State leading by one with 5:44 to play, Peppers sank two free throws and connected on a layup to put UCF up, 57-54, and never look back. The 22 points each game tied a career-high.
The league honor is the first of Peppers' career. He is the second Golden Knight to earn A-Sun accolades this season, joining senior Gary Johnson (Nov. 22).
Currently averaging 13.4 points per game on the year, Peppers is the Golden Knights leading scorer. He is knocking down nearly two three-pointers an outing and is ninth in the conference in free-throw percentage, shooting at a 74.7 percent clip from the line.
The Golden Knights return to action on Monday evening, hosting South Dakota State at 7 p.m. at UCF Arena.
