TROY, Ala. - The UCF men's tennis team opened up Atlantic Sun Conference play on Friday afternoon, dropping a 4-3 match at Troy. The Golden Knights fall to 2-5 overall and 0-1 in the league as Troy improves to 2-5 and 1-0.
Senior Joel Allen won one of two singles matches for UCF. He held off Emir Basic, 7-6, 5-7, 7-6 at No. 4. At No. 5, sophomore Sebastian Delgado was victorious, rallying to top Robert Van Swelm (4-6, 6-2, 7-6).
The Golden Knights opened the match by taking the doubles point. Allen joined fellow senior Antonio Sierra at No. 1. The pair eased past Irving Morales and Marko Despot, winning 8-1.
Senior Simon Jaeger and freshman Sinan Sudas defeated Daniel Quinceno and Basic at No. 2, 8-5. At No. 3, Delgado and senior Rhett Rosen got past Van Swelm and Artur Muller, 8-5.
The Golden Knights return to action on Sunday with a conference match at Georgia State, starting at 10 a.m.
