TROY, Ala. - The UCF men's tennis team opens its final season of Atlantic Sun play this weekend, hitting the road to face Troy and Georgia State. The Golden Knights (2-4) play Troy on Friday at 2 p.m. and then head to Atlanta to visit Georgia State on Sunday at 10 a.m.
UCF is coming off of a 7-0 thrashing of visiting Bethune-Cookman on Feb. 12. The Golden Knights claimed all six singles matches in two sets.
Senior Joel Allen has been UCF's top singles player, posting a 4-2 record since the spring campaign began. Playing at the No. 2 position against Bethune-Cookman, he earned a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Pablo Magro.
Junior Ener Gursoy has spent the last three matches at the No. 1 spot, claiming wins in two matches.
Troy is 1-4 on the year. The team dropped a 7-0 match at No. 19 Auburn on Wednesday. The Trojans return sophomore Irving Morales, the 2004 A-Sun Player and Freshman of the Year.
Georgia State has started the campaign 5-1, with three of those victories coming against conference opponents. The Panthers topped host Mercer on Tuesday, 4-3, and have a five-match winning streak. The squad plays Georgia Tech on Friday.
The Golden Knights will be joining Conference USA after this season. The squad has won the last two A-Sun crowns.
