Feb. 17, 2005

ORLANDO - The UCF-Georgia State men's basketball game on Saturday, Feb. 19 at UCF Arena will feature a halftime presentation in honor of former Golden Knight head coach Gene "Torchy" Clark. Tip off is scheduled for 7 p.m.

In conjunction with the UCF Alumni Association, cheerleaders and players from Clark's tenure (1970-84) are invited to attend a special dedication at halftime.

Clark started the basketball program on the Orlando campus and is the school's all-time leader in victories with 274. He guided the team to 14 winning seasons and an appearance in the 1978 Division II Final Four.

In late 2004, Clark was diagnosed with cancer of the jaw. He is currently undergoing treatment.

As a tribute and in recognition of his contributions as a coach and faculty member, an endowment has been established to support scholarships for undergraduate students at UCF enrolled in the physical education program and graduate students in the sports leadership program.
