ORLANDO - Freshman Preston Brown (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Nease HS) shot a 1-under-par 71 in windy conditions Monday morning to pace UCF as the Golden Knights took the early lead at the Fourth Annual UCF/Rio Pinar Intercollegiate at Rio Pinar Country Club. UCF shot a 3-over-par 291 and held a four-shot lead over Tulane and the rest of the 18-team field heading into Monday's afternoon round, which was not completed due to darkness.
Brown is tied for third with two other players, two shots behind Tulane's Chris Wheeler and one shot behind Texas Arlington's Tyrone Mordt.
Louisville, Lamar and UNC-Wilmington round out the top five at 8-over-par 296.
The second round will be completed at 7:30 Tuesday morning and the final round will begin as originally planned beginning at 8 a.m. with teams starting on the first and 10th tees. The leading teams will start their round at 9:30 off the first tee. The event is open to the public and there is no charge for admission.
