ORLANDO - After surviving matches against four tough ranked opponents to start the season, the UCF women's tennis team hosts unranked Morgan State on Tuesday at the UCF Tennis Complex. First serve is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. and admission is free.
The Golden Knights (0-4) have endured a bumpy start to the season dropping the last four consecutive matches and have been outscored 27-1 in those contests. Junior co-captain Pamela Fernandez earned the team's only point in a 7-6, 5-7 (10-3) victory over Auburn's Isabel Rosenbrock in the home opener on Feb. 4.
UCF has seen its share of tiebreaker battles. Sophomore Becky Gordon opened the season by splitting sets with No. 74 Lolita Frangulyan of Florida before dropping the tiebreaker, 10-3. Sophomore Megan Rosario-Hunter and freshman Jennifer Carati played extra points against Auburn and Florida International, respectively. Most recently at Florida State, Fernandez lost a tiebreaker to Lindsay Deason.
Meanwhile, Morgan State is beginning its spring season with a trip to the Sunshine State. The Bears open at Stetson on Valentine's Day before traveling down I-4 for a date with UCF. MSU finished the 2004 season with a 4-11 record and finished fourth in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's (MEAC) North Division.
