Feb. 14, 2005

MACON, Ga. - Celeste Hudson led the UCF women's basketball team to a perfect 3-0 week in conference play, while helping the squad to a three-game lead in the A-Sun standings with just over three weeks until the 2005 Coca-Cola/A-Sun Women's Basketball Championship. For her efforts, Hudson has been named the Atlantic Sun Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week as announced by the conference office on Monday.

Hudson started the week with a 12-point, six-rebound effort against Jacksonville on 5-of-6 shooting. The junior played just 25 minutes in the Golden Knights 68-49 win over the Dolphins, but still managed to swipe three steals and knock down 2-of-3 three-pointers. On Thursday, Hudson scored 28 points on 10-of-15 shooting to lead the Golden Knights to a 75-63 win over second place Georgia State. Against the Lady Panthers, Hudson hit 6-of-8 from three-point range, while pulling down five rebounds and dishing out seven assists. Hudson finished the week with an eight-point, eight-rebound effort against Mercer. Hudson led the Golden Knights to a 64-59 win on the road while hitting another pair of three-pointers.

For the week, Hudson averaged 16.0 points and 6.3 rebounds per game on 17-of-27 shooting (63.0%). The junior also hit a remarkable 10-of-14 from behind the arc and was 4-of-4 from the charity stripe. This marks the first time this season and in her career that Hudson has earned A-Sun Player of the Week honors.

Hudson is currently fourth in the A-Sun with 2.29 steals per contest and is hitting 36.6 percent of her three-point attempts, currently the eighth best percentage in the league.

UCF (15-7, 13-2 A-Sun) returns action on Thursday, February 17 when they host Gardner-Webb at 5 p.m. in game one of a doubleheader with the men's basketball team. Tickets for both games are still available.
