ORLANDO - The UCF men's tennis team eased past Bethune-Cookman, 7-0, Saturday afternoon at the UCF Tennis Complex. The Golden Knights improve to 2-4 on the year, while Bethune-Cookman drops its season opener.
UCF claimed all six singles matches, with each Golden Knight winning in two sets. Freshman Sinan Sudas made quick work at the No. 4 spot, topping Jerome Ward, 6-0, 6-0. At No. 6, senior Rhett Rosen was also a speedy winner, posting a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Terry Powell.
Junior Ener Gursoy took a 6-2, 6-2 No. 1 decision against Thabani Sithole. At No. 2, senior Joel Allen blew past Pablo Magro (6-2, 6-0). Fellow senior Simon Jaeger recorded a 6-2, 6-1 win against Fernando Marcato at the No. 3 spot. Davion Lewis could not handle senior Paul Ramy at No. 5 as Ramy claimed a 6-1, 6-2 win.
The Golden Knights opened the match by taking the doubles point after winning all three matches. Allen and Jaeger topped Sithole and Magro, 8-4, at No. 1.
At No. 2, Sudas and Ramy defeated Marcato and Ward (8-2). Gursoy and Rosen teamed at No. 3, easily topping Lewis and Powell by a score of 8-1.
UCF returns to action on Feb. 18, kicking off Atlantic Sun Conference play at Troy.
